Carbon Steel Plate Description
Carbon steel plates have many uses and a large amount. They are mainly used in railways, bridges, and various construction projects to manufacture various metal components that bear static loads, and unimportant mechanical parts and general welded parts that do not require heat treatment.
Product Parameters
1. Chemical Composition of ASTM A36 Carbon Steel Plate (%)
ASTM A36 is a low-carbon structural steel. Its chemical composition requirements are as follows (maximum values or ranges):
Element Carbon (C) Manganese (Mn) Phosphorus (P) Sulfur (S) Silicon (Si) Copper (Cu)
Content ≤0.26% 0.75%~1.20% ≤0.04% ≤0.05% ≤0.40% ≥0.20% (only when weathering resistance is required)
Notes:
Low-Carbon Design: Low carbon content (≤0.26%) ensures excellent weldability and formability.
Manganese Strengthening: Higher manganese content (0.75%~1.20%) compensates for strength loss due to low carbon, enhancing toughness.
Impurity Control: Strict limits on sulfur and phosphorus reduce risks of hot and cold brittleness.
Mechanical properties of ASTM A36 (for plate thickness ≤200mm):
Property Requirement
Notes:
Thickness Effect: Yield strength and elongation slightly decrease with increasing plate thickness (refer to standard for specific classifications).
Typical Condition: Generally supplied in hot-rolled condition, requiring no heat treatment to meet properties.
